There was an urgent teacher meeting this afternoon. Thus, all of the students of Kitagawa High School were freed from all studying activities for the rest of the day.
It was cold today, since it's still in the middle of winter. So everybody seemed to think that spending the rare free time in the library was a good idea. After all, library was the warmest place in their school when the winter came.
However, apparently there was one student who had different opinion.
Ninomiya Kazunari hated noises. That was why, instead of joining the others in the overcrowded library, despite the coldness, he chose to laze around at the rooftop of his school building alone.
The sky was clear, and the winter sun shone softly above him. With his sweaters, scarf, and gloves on, he lay on a bench there, under a huge water tank. A manga was spread over his cute face, covering his sharp, brown eyes that now were almost closed.
"Ah, there you are. Nino!"
He was almost falling into a deep slumber, when he heard someone shouted his name.
"Nino?"
He still lay there, unmoving, didn't bother to answer to the call, or even to give a sign that he heard it.
"Nino!"
The owner of the voice finally reached the place where Nino was lying at, and snatched the manga away from his face. Nino squinted reflectively because of the sudden brightness tickling his closing eyelids.
Lazily, Nino opened his eyes, and the darkened image of his classmate, Matsumoto Jun, jumped into his sight.
"What?" he grumbled sleepily.
The boy didn't say a word. Instead, he suddenly grabbed Nino's arm and abruptly pulled him to get up as the answer.
"Hey!" Nino protested, "Can't I have a peaceful nap just for a while, without any interruptions here?"
"This is not the right time to have a peaceful nap or whatever, Nino. Come, quick!"
"W-wait, Jun, wait!" Nino stuttered, quickly on his feet, trying his best not to be tripped by his own feet, as Jun dragged him along.
"Where are we going?" he asked when Jun brought him crossing the fourth floor's corridor, walking passed the empty classes.
"There's a fight down there, and you have to stop it."
"What? Hell, no!" Nino pulled his hand, trying to free it from Jun's grasp, but he failed.
"You have to!"
"Look, Jun, I'm not an ally of justice or something. So I'm definitely NOT going to interfere with anybody's fighting. Just let me go, now!"
Jun clicked his tongue in annoyance. "This is not just anybody's fighting, Nino. They are fighting because of you!"
"Me?? Jun, there must be something wrong with your brain. I'm up there almost all day long. How is it possible for me to cause such a fight down there?"
"Oh, of course it's very possible for you," Jun scoffed, "You and your goddamned chocolate."
Nino's heart sank to his stomach when he heard the word "chocolate". Finally, he knew where Jun would lead him to. However, it was too late. Before he had a chance to free himself and run away, Jun had already dragged him into an almost-empty classroom, right beside their own classroom.
Class 2-D. Of course. Just like what he had guessed. The class where he dropped by with Jun this morning to put a box of chocolates on a certain desk, before the owner came. A box of chocolates, which was now empty, scattered on a desk with the other two boxes, not far from the fighting boys.
Ohno Satoshi was holding back the furious Sakurai Sho, preventing him from beating Aiba Masaki more. The poor boy was now sprawling on the floor. His hair was a mess, and a dark bruise was printed on his left cheek.
Seeing that situation and the empty boxes of chocolates, Nino immediately understood. Jun was right: the fight happened because of him.
Because of his silly box of chocolates, more precisely.
Nino slapped his own face with the back side of his hand tiredly.
"Just, what's happening here, for god's sake?" he raised his voice.
The three boys turned to see him in surprise, especially Sho.
"N-Nino?" he said in a hoarse voice. His anger suddenly went away, that then Satoshi let go of his hold on Sho's arms.
"Nino!" Masaki got up, then running towards the smaller boy, trying to hide himself behind him—which was useless, because Masaki was much taller than Nino.
"See?" Jun rolled his eyes, waving his hand towards the mess, "I heard a noise when I was reading inside our classroom, and when I came here, this was what I found."
"Sho-chan?" Nino tilted his head, demanding an explanation, though actually he had more or less understood the situation.
Sho dropped his gaze to stare at his shoes.
"I— I... He... He ate up my Valentine chocolates..."
"But you said I can eat them all!" Masaki moaned from behind Nino's back, "Besides, I've just eaten three boxes. You still have plenty of them. Why are you so angry?"
Sho lifted his head up again, staring angrily at Masaki, making the tall boy shrunk behind Nino.
"I said you can eat them all, except this one!" Sho grabbed the yellow chocolate box from the desk, gritting his teeth, trying to hold down his anger.
"What's the difference? It's just the same chocolate like the others," Masaki squeaked.
"Of course it's different!" Sho's temper rose again, waving the empty chocolate box. "This one is important. Because it's... It's from... from..."
Sho took a short glance towards Nino, then blushing hard, couldn't finish his words.
"From who?" Satoshi suddenly spoke up from behind Sho.
"Mm..." Sho bit his lower lip, moving awkwardly at his place, "From..."
He took a short glance towards Nino again, and Nino, suddenly feeling awkward too, averted his eyes from Sho.
Don't say it! Nino shouted inside his mind. His heart was pounding fast, wishing for Sho not to do something stupid.
"... From someone very special for me..."
Baka!
The silence that followed after that was so intense, it felt suffocating. Nino felt his heart stopped beating, and familiar warmth quickly spread over his face. He was sure; his face now must be as red as tomatoes.
"Wha..." It was Masaki who broke the silence, "I'm so sorry, Sho-chan! I'm really sorry! I don't know that... that..."
He stepped out from his hiding place behind Nino, bowing very deep towards Sho, who sighed, then slowly shook his head; his face still burning red.
"Well, it had happened... Besides, no matter how much I punch you, it's impossible for you to give back my precious chocolate, anyway..." he said.
"Does that mean that I've been forgiven?" Masaki straightened his body again, staring at Sho with his puppy eyes. Sho gave him a brief nod as the answer.
"Yay!!" The tall boy bounced up and down in his happiness for being forgiven by his best friend.
Uh-oh.
Nino's brain quickly sent him the alarm of danger: Masaki in his cheerful mode was clearly not good in a situation like this.
"So," Masaki grinned wide towards Sho, "Who is that, Sho-chan? Your very special person?"
Dammit! Nino mentally cursed the bouncing boy.
Sho blushed again. He opened his mouth, as if going to say something, but then caught by his sight, Nino was glaring at him.
Go on, say it. Tell him. Then I'll send you to the school clinic right away!
"Ee..." Sho averted his eyes from Nino's death glare, "I can't tell you..."
"Aaah! Come on Sho-chan, aren't we good friends? There shouldn't be secrets between good friends."
"B--but..."
"Ah, I know! There must be a card or something in that box which tells the name of the sender! Let me borrow it for a second, Sho-chan!" Masaki marched forward, his right hand reached out, trying to take the empty chocolates box from Sho.
Sho shook his head, panicked, hiding the box behind his back, slowly stepping backwards.
Oh, shit!
Nino watched Masaki's attack in panic. His eyes widened in horror. He had to do something--anything--to stop the taller boy. If not, he would know that it was Nino who gave the chocolates to Sho!
However, unfortunately, his brain froze because of the panic attack. All he could do was just standing there, watching in despair, hoping there will be a miracle to save him.
Please, don't. Please, just... don't.
"Masaki-kun!" Jun suddenly spoke up, making Masaki, who almost managed to get the box from Sho, stopped and turned to see him. So did Nino.
"I got too many chocolates today. And you know what? I'm not so into sweets. So I think maybe you want to help me to finish it up...?" Jun made a punctuation mark on the air with his fingers on the word 'finish'.
Masaki's eyes immediately shone in joy. "May I?"
Jun nodded. "Of course. Now, if you don't mind to follow me to my classroom..."
"Coming!" Masaki bounced cheerfully to Jun's side.
"And Satoshi-kun too, if you want to? I'm sure I have enough chocolates for you two."
Satoshi shrugged, then followed Masaki's step to Jun's side.
"Great. Let's go then."
Jun threw a glance towards Nino, who threw back a thankful gaze to his savior. Nino promised in his mind, he would drag Jun to a delicious ramen shop after school today.
The 2-D classroom's door scrolled closed behind the three boys, leaving Nino alone with Sho inside.
Nino let out a long, relieved sigh, then threw his body to the nearest chair.
"That was close..."
"Yeah..." Sho took a seat opposite to him, "Thanks to Jun-kun."
"I was thinking... If you told Masaki that that chocolate was from me, I was going to give you a fatal hit right on your nose."
Sho chuckled. "And why is that that you don't want Masaki to know about us so badly?"
"I don't want anyone to know, Sho-chan. I want it just to be a secret between the two of us..."
"But Jun-kun knows, doesn't he?"
"Yeah, he's an exception. It's almost impossible to hide anything from him, I told you. He's a little bit too sensitive," Nino winced.
"You're funny, Nino," Sho chuckled again.
"Haha! Look who talked here," Nino scoffed, "You're even funnier than me, Sho-chan. You almost broke Masaki-kun's nose just because of that silly chocolates."
"But it's the chocolates from you. No one should eat it, but me," Sho said, defensive, making Nino blushed again.
"Aah, now it's gone..." Sho pouted, "I even haven't taken a single bite of it."
"Do you want it so badly? The Valentine chocolate from me?"
"Of course!"
Nino sighed, then began to search in his pockets. A second later, he pulled out something from his left pocket: a crumpled pack of m&m's chocolate.
He poured all of the contents of the pack to his right hand, then put the empty plastic bag back to his pocket.
"These are all that left."
Three small chocolates with different colors laid on the surface of Nino's palm. He offered it to Sho.
"Here."
Sho blinked twice, before lifting his right hand to take the chocolates from Nino. However, to his surprise, Nino pulled back his stretched hand, and then poured all of the chocolates on it inside his own mouth.
"Wha...??" Sho's mouth opened in surprise.
"Whoops, sorry. My hand slipped," Nino grinned mischievously towards him, "But there's still time if you want to take it back." He showed the chocolates on his tongue to Sho.
"You--"
"Come on, take it. You want it so bad, don't you?"
Sho blushed really hard hearing Nino's challenge. But he stood up from his chair anyway, reaching for Nino's cheeks, cupping both of those soft cheeks with his hands, then leaning forward to place a kiss on his lips.
A soft kiss at the beginning. Hesitant. But then Nino gave response by parting his lips, inviting Sho's tongue to come in.
Sho leaned closer to Nino. His right hand had been moved from Nino's cheek to the back of his head, pressing him forward, to deepen their kiss.
Sho's tongue began to enter Nino's mouth, reaching for the chocolates on the younger’s tongue. Nino groaned when he felt Sho's tongue touching his.
One.
He grabbed Sho's arms tight, as if didn't want to let go. Sho's tongue kept exploring Nino's mouth, looking for the second grain of chocolates.
Two.
"Sho-chan..." Nino gasped, when Sho took a short break to swallow the chocolates.
"One more to go," Sho said among his uneven breath, wetting his lips and leaning forward to attack again.
Nino closed his eyes, enjoying every single jolt of electricity Sho delivered to him through his lips and tongue. He groaned again, when finally Sho managed to take the last chocolate from his mouth.
Three.
They broke the kiss, their foreheads collided, both breathing unevenly, gasping for fresh air.
Sho swallowed the last chocolate, and then silence lingered around them, as they tried to steady their breath.
After a while, Sho started to chuckle.
"You’re such a little devil. You always manage to make me fall into your traps," he said, staring at the mischievous glint in Nino’s eyes.
"But isn’t that what makes you love me?" Nino displayed a playful grin, gaining laughter from Sho.
"Yeah, yeah."
"By the way, because I'm a Devil, I demand your soul for my White Day present, then."
Sho laughed again. "Don't worry, I've been long-prepared to give all of my body and soul for you, especially after these super delicious Valentine chocolates from you," he wetted his lips, then leaning forward once again to give a peck on Nino's lips.
"Gochicousama deshita, my Little Devil."
