Summary: "Your next birthday is the day when we will claim you back. So be prepared..."
Note: This is written for Aiba's birthday and Christmas. Just a little suggestion, try to listen to Saybia's song, The Second You Sleep, while reading this story, for the song played an important role building my mood in writing this story :3 the PoV will be alternated between Jun and Aiba.
Warning: Self-beta, since mabopiman is a little bit busy at work, so there will probably some mistakes... ^^”a and not a happy story. Considering this is for Aiba's birthday and Christmas, and normally people will hope for a happy one, so I think I should warn you from the beginning... Well, uhm, enjoy...
-------
Jun learned that Aiba had been acting strange lately. He remembered clearly, Aiba himself told him that he would be very busy during December, because his company got a big project for Christmas and New Year (Aiba worked in an advertisement company). But then, in the second week of December, when he should be very busy, Aiba suddenly took a long break from his work.
"Nothing special. I just want to spend more time with Jun-chan. Recently I get too busy, that we don't have much time to be spent together. I've asked Toma-kun to take over my works, and he agreed. Nishikido-san doesn't mind the change of the personnel either, so..."
That was what Aiba said when Jun asked for the reason.
It's not that Jun against it or something. On the contrary, he was very happy to know that Aiba would be on his side more often.
Jun himself was an author, so he spent most of his time staying at home, writing. Sometimes it could be very depressing to stay at home alone all day long. Now that Aiba was there to accompany him, Jun wouldn't feel that way again. At least for the next three weeks.

December 10
"Nee, nee, Jun-chan," Aiba jumped to the sofa beside Jun so suddenly, making the younger lifted his gaze from the story he wrote in a start, as the surface of the brown sofa bounced. "I have a request!"
"Hmm?" The younger stared at his lover through his glasses. "What request?"
"Well,... You know, my birthday will come soon, so, I...," Aiba grinned, "I want my birthday present in advance..."
"Eeh?" Jun lifted his eyebrows. "But I haven't bought anything yet..."
"No, no, no. It's not what I mean," Aiba quickly added, shaking his head, "I don't want that kind of present. What I want for my birthday this year is Jun-chan going to the amusement park with me. We'll have a full-day date there. Having fun together."
"Ooh. Fine then," Jun smiled, "On December 24, we'll go there together."
"No, Jun-chan, not on December 24," Aiba pouted, "I said in advance."
"Well...," Jun scratched the top of his head. He stood up to check the calendar hanging on the wall. "I have to finish this chapter before 13, and will have a meeting with my editor on 14, so... How about on 15?"
"Yay!" Aiba jumped from his seat, burried himself in Jun's embrace. "Jun-chan is the best! I love you!"
Jun smiled. Seeing the smile on Aiba's face always made his chest filled with warmth. Jun had promised himself not to let a single sadness erasing that pure smile of his beloved one.

"Whoaaaaaa! So hiiiiiiiiigh!" Aiba pushed his face against the glass wall of the ferris wheel's chamber, where he and Jun were sitting in. "The night view from above here is just the best!"
Jun chuckled seeing his lover's over-excitement.
"What?" Aiba turned to see Jun.
"Nothing," the younger said, "It's just that you're so cute when you show your childish side."
"Oh..." Aiba blushed.
"How's your birthday present?"
"It's amazing! Today is the best date we've ever had! Super fun! Thank you, Jun-chan!" Aiba chirped cheerfully.
Jun grinned towards the older. "Glad you like it."
But then, the grin on Aiba's face slowly disappeared.
"I..." He lowered his head to stare at his shoes.
"Hmm...?" Jun lifted his eyebrows.
"I think I'm going to miss the time like this..."
Jun chuckled again. "We can come here again anytime you want."
Aiba lifted his head. "Un..." He smiled softly towards Jun.
"Hey, why don't we take a picture together?" Jun took out his cell phone from his pocket.
Aiba suddenly went back to his cheerfull-mode. "Great idea!" He hastily shifted to Jun's side, making the chamber shaking.
"Wow, wow, easy," Jun hold on to his seat, trying to keep his balance.
"Sorry," the older grinned innocently, then sat down beside Jun.
"Ready?" Jun set the camera in front of them. And when he was just about to push the capture button, he turned to kiss Aiba's cheek.
Then he pushed the button.

Jun sat on the bed, leaning his back to the head of their sharing bed, reading a book. Aiba entered the bedroom in his pajamas, directly dived under the blanket folds.
"Jun-chan, heeelp!! The bed is eating meee!" He screamed from under the blanket and pillows.
Jun chuckled, putting his book down to the small table beside their bed.
"Then I'll help it to swallow you!"
The younger got under the blanket, joining his lover, and tickling him.
Aiba laughed out loud. "Jun-chan, stop! It tickles!"
But Jun wouldn't stop. Until then Aiba managed to hold both of his hand. They stared at each other for a moment, then giggled.
"Nee, Jun-chan, do you love me?" Aiba asked all of a sudden.
"Of course I do." Jun answered. "If I don't, then we won't be here now, under the same blanket."
The older smiled. But somehow, Jun saw sadness from those eyes.
"Thank you, Jun-chan. I love you too. Very much."
"Baka," Jun said, "You don't have to thank me. All you need to do is staying here beside me..."
He leaned forward, kissing Aiba's lips, chin, neck...

December 18
"Jun-chan, this is Sho-chan, my best friend from the company."
A man with a pair of dark, clever eyes offered his right hand to Jun. Smile bloomed on his full lips. "Sakurai Sho."
Jun shook Sho's stretched hand, smiling back. "Matsumoto Jun."
"I've heard a lot about Matsumoto-san from Aiba-kun," Sho spoke with his husky voice. "He talks about you all the time. I bet he loves you very much."
"Really?" Jun chuckled.
"Nee, Sho-chan!" Aiba pouted, as his cheeks turned red.
Sho let out a peculiar laughter. Light and intricate. "But seriously, I'm jealous of you. Having someone who loves you a lot like Aiba-kun, it must be great, ne?"
"Yeah," Jun grinned, "He's the best. But, Sakurai-san, I think you're too, an important person for Masaki-kun."
"Me?"
"You're the first friend of him, whom he ever introduced to me formally like this."
"Eh? Really?" Sho stared at Aiba.
"It's true Sho-chan." Aiba answered. "You're quite a good person, so I want Jun-chan to be friend with you too."
"It's my honor, then." Sho grinned.
"Yeah," Aiba smiled softly. "I hope you two can get along well."

December 20
"Jun-chan, Jun-chan," Aiba called, "Let's have steak for tonight's dinner! Foreze has a special menu that only being sold once a year, every December 20. People say it is the most delicious steak in the country. I somehow managed to make a reservation to eat there today. I want to try their special menu with you."
"I'm sorry Masaki-kun, I can't go for now. I have to finish my work. The deadline for this chapter is tomorrow." Jun answered without turning from his PC.
"Oh, come on Jun-chan. Just for an hour or two. They only sell it once a year," the older begged.
Jun sighed. "I can't, really. There's still so much to write. Murakami-san said some part of this chapter need to be re-written because the timeline is rather confusing." He turned his chair to face his pouting lover.
Aiba bit his lower lip. "It's okay, Jun-chan. Sorry for making such a selfish request without thinking of your works..."
Seeing guilty in Aiba's eyes, Jun couldn't bear, but to stand up and give the older a hug. "I'm so sorry Masaki-kun... I promise, next year we'll definitely eat there. I'm the one who will make the reservation that time."
"Next year... I don't know Jun-chan... I'm not sure whether we'll be able to eat there or not..." Aiba said. There was a strange tone in his voice.
Jun realized it. He let go his hug to stare at Aiba's eyes. "We will. I promise, okay? Oh, come on, don't be sad."
Aiba forced a weak smile.
Next year, I...

"...saki-kun... Masaki-kun?" Jun's voice dragged Aiba back to the real world from his daydreaming.
"Yes?" He stared at the younger with his plain expression.
"What happen to you? Are you sick or something?" Jun put his hand on Aiba's forehead to check the temperature.
"I'm alright, Jun-chan," the older took Jun's hand from his forehead and put it down.
"You've been acting strange, Masaki-kun. Since the day you suddenly took the long holiday." Jun voiced his worry. "You often spacing out, daydreaming... Your mood changes so fast... Somehow, for me, you look... Sad..."
"What? Nn... No... I'm just... Tired..."
Jun sighed. "You can just talk to me if there's something bothering you."
Aiba shook his head. "Nothing Jun-chan, really. I'm just tired..." He smiled weakly.

December 22
"Jun-chan..."
They were lying down on their shared bed. Jun had already half-asleep.
"Mm?" He mumbled, opening his eyes, slightly shifted from his position to face Aiba.
"Do you love me?"
The same question.
"Yes I do. What's the matter, Masaki-kun?"
Aiba shook his head. "Nothing. I just want to hear those love words from Jun-chan's mouth as much as possible."
Jun knew, his lover was facing something. A problem that he couldn't tell anyone else, including Jun. He had tried all he could to make Aiba speak. But the older wouldn't.
Jun didn't know what to do to help Aiba with his problem. All he could do now was just to make Aiba calm. To make his beloved one feel protected. So he reached Aiba's body beside him into his embrace.
"I love you, Masaki-kun. More than anything in this world. I love you. Very much love you..."

December 23
Jun had bought a silver necklace with a nice pendant for Aiba's birthday present. Though the older said he had already satisfied with their date in amusement park and didn't want anything else for his birthday, still, Jun bought it for him.
He had bought too, a large birthday cake for tonight celebration.
But then Murakami-san called. Some revisions should be made over his novel. And the deadline was before eight o'clock tonight.
So, when he finally finished his work, Jun felt so tired, that when his head touched the soft pillow, he immediately lost inside the dream.
***
You close your eyes
And leave me naked by your side
You close the door so I can't see
The love you keep inside
The love you keep for me
It fills me up
It feels like living in a dream
It fills me up so I can't see
The love you keep inside
The love you keep for me
December 23 - 23:47
Aiba reached for the alarm clock on the table beside their shared bed. It was set to ring at 00:00. He smiled slightly, then deactivated the alarm, and put it back on the table.
He lied down on the bed beside Jun, watching the younger's sleeping face. Jun looked so peaceful. Aiba ran his fingers carefully on Jun's facial line, touching his cheek, his eyebrows, down to his nose line, his lips...
He stroke Jun's hair softly, as soft as he could, so Jun wasn't awaken. As he did so, his heart started to ache again. The pain is greater than before this time, that he couldn't bear anymore. His tears began to flow, rolling down on his nose and cheeks, wetting the pillow sheet.
"I don't want to lose you..." He whispered in pain. "I don't want to leave you..."
Aiba Masaki cried silently, let out all of the sadness and pain inside his chest in the form of tears.
Tonight is the last night he would ever feel the warmth of Jun's body. The last night he could sleep beside his beloved. The last night he could touch him. The last night Jun would ever see him.
The more he saw Jun, the more his tears flowed.

December 24 - 00:00
"Aiba Masaki, I come to pick you up."
A mysterious man suddenly appeared from nowhere. He stood in the corner of the bedroom. The man, with a mole on his chin, was wearing a long, black cloak.
Ninomiya Kazunari, the shinigami.
Aiba sat on the bedside, waiting. His already-dried-eyes closed. He took a deep breath, then let out a long sigh, before then stood up.
"Okay. I'm ready."

December 05
"Tadaima!" Aiba swung the door closed behind him. He knew Jun was out for a meeting with his editor, and would come home late today. He knew there wouldn't be anybody to answer his greeting, but still he yelled it when he entered their apartment room.
He was so surprised to hear a sleepy voice answered his greeting, "Okaeri, Masaki."
He turned on the lamp in a rush, and there he saw him, the owner of the voice.
Sitting on the sofa in the living room, a man, maybe one or two years older than him, with tanned skin and sleepy expression. His almond-shaped eyes were staring at him in an almost-blank gaze. The man was wearing a long, black cloak.
"W--Who are you?" Aiba asked, still in his surprise, entering the living room.
The man let out a sleepy smile. "My name is Ohno Satoshi, the king of shinigami. I'm your father."
Silence.
Aiba needed a while to proceed what the man named Ohno had said.
"What??" He slowly sat down on the sofa in front of Ohno. "Shinigami? My father??"
Ohno nodded.
"Wow, wow, wait a moment," Aiba chuckled, "What kind of joke is this? Who—who sent you here? And—and how did you get in here? There are just two keys. One is mine. One is Jun's—"
Ohno smiled again. "I'm a shinigami. I don't need keys. I can go anywhere I want."
Aiba frowned. "I don't know, Ohno-san. You’ve entered my house without permission, and I don't like it. Now, would you please leave?"
"You are my son, Masaki," Ohno continued, ignoring Aiba's protest, "I'm sure you don't remember, because years ago, I had frozen your memory. I turned you into a human baby, and sent you to the human world, in order to make your power perfect before it's unsealed. This year you will turn 100. At that age, your power will be unsealed. You will be immortal, and you will be able to begin your job as a proper shinigami."
"No way!" Aiba shook his head. "Please, stop. There's no such a thing like shinigami in this world. It only exists in fairytales and games, and movies. Now, if you won't leave, I'll call the police and—"
Ohno stood up from his seat. He walked towards the mini bar in the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" Aiba followed behind him.
Ohno reached to the vase on the minibar, and took one of the flowers from it. When he touched it, the fresh flower suddenly wilted, and soon dried.
Aiba watched the die flower in Ohno's hand, his eyes wide-opened, jaw-dropping.
"See?" Ohno threw the die flower into the trash, "And if by seeing this hasn't retrieved your memory yet, then I should..."
Before Aiba could move, Ohno had already stood in front of him, lifting his right hand to touch Aiba's forehead.
Aiba felt a strange sensation, as if there were hands pulling his body backwards fast, very fast, that the room around him suddenly turned into blurred images and colors.
He saw some random scenes flashed quickly in front of his eyes, as if someone was playing a DVD inside his head.
That strange sensation last for some more seconds, and finally he stopped moving backwards. He felt his feet landed safely against the kitchen floor.
When his eyes had its focus back, he caught Ohno in his sight.
He remembered. He remembered everything now. Everything.
"Father..."
Ohno smiled again. "Good."
"Excuse me, Satoshi-sama." Nino suddenly appeared from nowhere, "We need you down there. The prime minister of hell is looking for you."
"I see. I'll come back soon." Ohno nodded to Nino, then stared back to Aiba. "Now, that your memory is back, you know what to do. Your next birthday is the day when we will claim you back. So be prepared." He patted Aiba's shoulder. "See you soon at home, son."
Ohno smiled, then disappeared, leaving Aiba and Nino in the kitchen.
Aiba turned to see Nino. Ninomiya Kazunari, he remembered this man as his father's private guard.
"I..." He said. His voice suddenly sounded hoarse. "Nino, do I have to go...?"
Nino stared at him. "Yes, Young Master."
"But I..."
Jun. Jun popped up inside his head. Filled his mind.
Now that he had remembered, Aiba was aware that he was the son of the shinigami king. He was aware that he must go back to the underworld. And that meant he had to leave Jun...
Aiba felt there was an iron hand squeezed his heart. So cold and painful.
"I... Don't want to go back..." He heard himself spoke, but his voice seemed to come from distant.
"Young Master," Nino frowned, "You must go back. You're Satoshi-sama's only child. You're the one who will inherit his throne. The one who will be the next king of shinigami."
"But..." Aiba squeaked, "But there's someone... There's someone here who is very important for me. I can't leave him..."
"A human?" Nino asked.
Aiba nodded.
The shinigami shook his head, "Young Master-- we're shinigami. We take lives. We can't be together with the living things. Including human..."
"But..."
"You know the rule," Nino grabbed Aiba's upper arm, "Once your power unsealed, every living things you touch will die..."
Aiba shook his head hard. "No. There must be an exception. I... There's no way I will kill Jun-chan only by touching him. You-- you touch me now, and I don't die. I--"
"Young Master, listen to me," Nino sounded desperate, squeezing Aiba's arm tighter, "You don't die because you are a shinigami. If I touch normal humans, they will die all at once."
Aiba slumped to the floor, still shaking his head in disbelief.
Nino sighed. "I know it's difficult. And painful. But you can't betray your fate as a shinigami..."
"Why... Why I have to get through all of this...?"
"All of us should..." Nino said in a low tone. "In order to make our power perfect..."
Nino sat down on the floor beside Aiba, resting his back against the lower side of the minibar.
"There's still time before your next birthday," he continued, "If I'm allowed to give suggestion, you should spend the rest of your time with him to the fullest... Make as much memory as you can. Because you know it, don't you... Once your power unsealed, he will..."
Aiba felt tears flowed down on his cheeks.
"Yeah... I know..."

December 24 00:01
Aiba stared at the envelope on his hand.
"Aiba Masaki? Or... From now on I should call you Ohno Masaki-sama..." Nino called.
"Wait a moment, Nino," Aiba said. He put the envelope on the small table beside the bed, near the pile of Jun's books. That was when his eyes caught a small box wrapped neatly with a green paper, ribbons, and a small card with a message: Beloved Masaki-kun. Happy Birthday!
Aiba lifted the box. A birthday present from Jun. He tore the wrapping paper, and opened the box to find a silver necklace inside. He felt his eyes started to wet again.
"Baka," he mumbled, "I've told you I don't want anything else for my birthday..."
He wore the necklace around his neck. There was a small pendant hanging on the necklace. A small wing.
"Thank you very much, Jun-chan." He sobbed, putting the box back to the table, beside his letter. "I love you."
There was a strong desire inside his heart to kiss Jun. To kiss his beloved one for the last time...
But he couldn't. He mustn’t.
He had turned 100 years old now. His power had already unsealed. If he ever touched Jun, the younger would...
Aiba squeezed the small wing on his painful chest, throwing the last sad gaze towards Jun, then turned to face Nino.
"You'll be a great shinigami, Masaki-sama, for the pain you bear is so great..." Nino said, slightly bowed towards his young master.
"Let's go."

I stay to watch you fade away
I dream of you tonight
Tomorrow you'll be gone
It gives me time to stay
To watch you fade away
I dream of you tonight
Tomorrow you'll be gone
I wish by God you'd stay
December 24 07:37
Jun woke up in a start, hastily grabbed the alarm clock on the table.
"Crap! I overslept!" He rushed down from the bed and went out to the living room, staggered, for he was still a little bit dizzy from waking up so suddenly.
"Masaki-kun?" He called. But the living room was empty. So did the kitchen.
"Masaki-kun?" He peeked inside the bathroom. Empty. "Masaki-kun??"
Jun scratched the back of his head in confusion. Where did Aiba go? He wondered.
He went back to the bedroom, reaching for his cell phone.
Maybe he's out to buy something at the konbini. Jun thought, scrolled down the contact list on his phone, attempted to call Aiba. But then he frowned. He couldn't find Aiba's number there.
He scrolled again from top to bottom. Again. And again.
Nothing.
Still frowning, Jun dialled Toma's number. Toma is one of Aiba's friends he knew.
"Matsumoto-san, what happened? Why suddenly call me?" Toma's voice on the other side.
"Ah, Toma-san... I just want to ask... Er-- I know it sounds riddiculous-- but somehow I lost Masaki-kun's number. Would you mind to give me his number, please?"
"Eh? Masaki? Who is Masaki?" Toma sounded perplexed.
Jun's frowning deeper. "Aiba Masaki, the one who works in design department from your company."
"There's no one named Aiba Masaki here. Did you mean Sakurai Sho?"
"Toma-san, please. No joking. I really need his number now." Jun pleaded.
"You're the one joking around, Matsumoto-san. As far as I know, your friend from design department here named Sakurai Sho. Not Aiba Masaki."
"Oh, well," Jun rolled his eyes. "Okay then. Thank you." He hung up.
Jun went outside to check, maybe Aiba had already on his way back to their room, when he met Ogura-san, their neighbor, who just got out from the elevator.
"Good morning, Matsumoto-kun."
"Good morning, Ogura-san. Er-- did you see Masaki-kun downstairs?"
Ogura-san frowned. "Masaki?"
Jun's eyes widen. Not again.
"Masaki Aiba, my roommate." He tried.
"Your roommate?" Ogura-san lifted his eyebrows. "Isn't he named Sho?"
Jun felt his heart sank to his stomach. He let out an awkward laugh. "Ah, yes... I... think I'm still dreaming... Sorry for making you confuse, Ogura-san." Then he left the-still-perplexed Ogura-san, to go back inside his room.
"What the hell is happening?" He claimed. "This is weird!"
Jun threw his body to the bed, landed hardly on the pile of pillows, making the bed shaking. He turned his head to see the present box he had prepared the day before for Aiba. He found it had already been opened. He sat down to observe it. Then he recognized there was a green envelope there.
To: Jun-chan.
It was Aiba's handwriting.
Jun tore the envelope, and opened the letter inside.
Dear Jun-chan,
When you read this letter, it means that I'm already in a place far away from you.
I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this before. And I'm sorry for not telling you goodbye either.
I just... Can't...
If I ever tell you goodbye, you'd be sad. And I'm sure I won't be able to leave if I see your sad face...
Jun-chan, I'm a shinigami.
You may laugh. You may disbelief. But I'm telling you the truth.
I'm a shinigami, and today is my 100th birthay. The day when my power will be unsealed.
Do you know, once a shinigami's power is unsealed, every living thing he touch will die.
That's why I have to leave you, though I really don't want to...
I don't know what kind of world I will face without you. I'm scared Jun-chan...
I don't want to be parted from you. Though Jun-chan often makes me envy, because he is too perfect, and much prettier than me. And Jun-chan also often makes me cranky, because he is sometimes too serious, and gets absorbed too much in works, that he ignores me. Jun-chan sometimes is also scary, because he gets angry easily.
But I love that kind of Jun-chan. I'll be lonely without you.
In this new world, there will be no more Jun-chan to take care of me. To listen to all my problems. To accompany me when I'm lonely. To comfort me with his hug when I'm sad...
I'm going to miss you so much. So much that I can't say with words...
Jun-chan, thank you for all the great times we've spent together. Thank you for your patience towards me. Thank you for accompanying me through my good and bad times. Thank you for your love. For everything. Thank you so much.
All I can say is I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry it has to end up like this.
But don't worry, once you fall asleep, when you wake up, you will forget everything about me. Just like everybody else did when they woke up this morning.
I should've modified your memory too, last night. But, yappari, I can't leave you without any goodbye. I want you to at least read this letter first, then you can forget all about me...
Again, I'm so sorry for my selfishness.
Though you will forget about me after this, I will never ever forget Jun-chan. I promise.
So don't be sad, okay? I'm always watching Jun-chan from my place here. It's my turn to protect you now.
I had prepared a Christmas present for you, Jun-chan. You'll find out what it is tomorrow. I hope the last present from me will make you happy.
I love you Jun-chan. I will always be.
Good bye,
-Aiba Masaki-

December 25 03:49
Jun curled on his bed. The bed he used to share with Aiba. His eyes swollen for crying all day long.
He still couldn't believe that his beloved Masaki had gone from his side.
He hadn't move a single bit from the bed since he read Aiba's last letter in the morning. He hadn't drunk, he hadn't eaten at all. He ignored all the mails and phone calls...
Jun lifted the crumpled paper in his hand. Aiba's letter was so messy now. It was so wet because of Jun's tears. He knew he would cry again if he re-read it. However, still, he did it.
"Masaki-kun baka. I don't want to forget you too," he sobbed. "Therefore, I won't fall asleep..."
But he was just a normal human. Jun was so tired from crying. So finally, finally he fell asleep...

December 25 09:28
"Merry Christmas!" Sho showed up in front of Jun's door, with a large suitcase, a bottle of wine, and some present boxes.
"S-Sho-chan?" Jun said, surprised.
Sho grinned. "Surprise! I'm home!"
"But... Didn't you say that you'll come home on December 26?"
"Yeah. I managed to finish my works before the deadline. So I can come back home earlier. I want to celebrate Christmas with you, Jun-kun." The older's grin wider.
Jun still stood up in front of the door, speechless.
"And now, could you please step aside and let me in? These are kind of heavy..." Sho shook the things he held in his hands.
"Aaah, sorry," Jun stepped aside to let the older inside, helping Sho to bring the wine bottle and the present boxes, and put all of those things on the living room's table.
Sho dragged his suitcase behind him. "Whoaa, there's no place better than home. Especially when it's Christmas." He dropped himself on the puffy sofa. "Is there anything to eat, Jun-kun? I'm hungry."
"Ah well, since I think I will be alone today, I was planning of eating outside, so I haven't cooked anything yet. But I can make something for you if you want to." The younger walked to the kitchen.
"Aah, thank you," Sho said while putting his red gloves off.
"Let's see what we have here..." Jun bent down to check the available ingredients inside the refrigerator. He was surprised to find a large cake filled most of the space on the second row of the refrigerator.
Frowning, he took the cake out. He didn't remember buying a Christmas cake the day before. Moreover, there was a pale green message, "Happy Birthday, Masaki-kun!" written on the surface of the cake.
It wasn't a Christmas cake. It was a birthday cake.
Who was Masaki?
Jun brought the cake to the living room.
"A cake?" Sho eyed the cake in Jun's hand.
Jun shrugged. "I don't remember buying or receiving a cake before. But this was in the refrigerator..." He put the cake beside the wine bottle on the living room table.
A short silence lingered in the air, while Jun was frowning, observing the cake seriously. Seeing his lover's seriousness, Sho couldn't hold his laughter. Jun shifted his gaze from the cake to Sho.
"You're always so serious, Jun-kun." The older said among his laughter.
"But this is really weird, Sho-chan. How come there is a birthday cake for someone named Masaki inside our refrigerator?"
"Hmm, okay. How about this: let's just consider it as a present from Santa. Santa dropped the wrong cake for us. Instead of a Christmas cake, he dropped a birthday cake last night. Our cake must had been switched with this Masaki's." Sho grinned.
"Hmm." Jun mumbled.
"Just let it be, Jun-chan. Let's not making our self busy thinking about where this cake are coming from. Let's just enjoy it, shall we? I'm hungry." Sho went to the kitchen to get some saucers, knife, and forks.
"Speaking about present," the older continued while cutting the cake, "I haven't bought anything special for your Christmas present yet..." He glanced towards the present boxes, "Those are just some random things I bought on the way back here..."
"Aah," Jun shook his head, shoving a saucer to Sho, "Don't worry about that. You've worked hard to finish your job before deadline to be able to come home earlier on Christmas... For me, that's more special than anything."
"Really?" Sho handed back the saucer--with a piece of cake on it now--to Jun. His cheeks slightly blushed.
Jun nodded, smiling. "Really."

Aiba floated outside Jun's living room window in his long, dark cloak. A wide smile curved on his lips.
Nino suddenly appeared beside him. "What are you smiling at, Masaki-sama?" He peeked inside the room curiously.
"They're a nice couple, aren't they?"
Nino watched his master. "What happened?"
Aiba shrugged. "I modified their memory a little. I make them fall in love to each other. Sho-chan is a very good person. I'm pretty sure he'll be able to make Jun-chan happy. So I choose him to replace my position beside Jun-chan..."
Nino laughed out loud, making Aiba stared at him with widen eyes.
"What's so funny?"
"I-- I'm sorry Young Master," Nino answered, still laughing, "It's just that, ... I've lived for hundred years. But this is the first time I ever see a shinigami makes people fall in love. Yo—you’re totally a failure."
Aiba moved his lips opened and closed, before at last managed to utter a word. "Yo-- you're... I'm your master, Ninomiya! Don't you dare to laugh at me!" He pouted.
"I'm sorry, Young Master! I'm sorry!!" Nino's laughter louder. Then he disappeared.
Aiba sighed, then turned to observe the couple inside the living room again.
If he wasn't a shinigami, it should be him, who celebrated Christmas with Jun inside the warm living room. It should be him, who opened the present boxes from Jun under the Christmas tree. It should be him and Jun having great time together...
He suddenly started to feel lonely again.
Aiba grabbed the small wing on his chest. Jun's last birthday present for him.
"Merry Christmas, Jun-chan..."

A/N: Waaaaaaaa what did I write??? >.<
Er... Okay. So, Aiba's last present for Jun is Sho...
Uh... Please don't hate me for parting Aiba from Jun T.T
For mabopiman, i’m sorry for making a sad!Junba story T.T thank you so much for all the advice, so I manage to write a better ending <3
After reading this for the first time, mabopiman said, that "It feels like Hidamari no Kanojo." So, I want to say sorry to Jun too, to make him get through the similar pattern twice m(__)m
I don’t really know what happen to us, but recently me and mabopiman are in the mood of angst... (take a look at her White Chirstmas fic). We both talked about shinigami. And somehow, our writting style are the same this time (using the date timeline). Is this what they call synchro? /slapped xD
Ah well... I'm not really confident with this one though, but... I hope you enjoy it >.<
Happy 31st Birthday, Aiba Masaki-niichan!
And Happy Christmas! \(´▽`)/

"Let's go."

"Really."

December 25 09:35
