Summary: It's Valentine, and Jun was going to make chocolates for his bandmates. But then Sho said that he didn't need one...
-------
"Nee, nee, Jun-chan, what did you buy?" Aiba leaned his body forward against the kitchen table, staring curiously at a big plastic bag Jun had just put down.
"These," the younger answered while taking out all of the contents one by one.
There were some small square molds, one big heart-shaped mold, a big carton of milk, a big bag of sugar, cocoa powder, and cocoa blocks lined on the table now.
"You're going to practice for ChocoJun again?" Ohno asked, joining his two bandmates on the kitchen table.
"No. Today I'm going to make some chocolates for Valentine."
"Waai! Jun's handmade chocolate! I want! I want!" Aiba chirped vigorously, lifting his right hand high on the air, like a student who wanted to answer a question from his teacher.
"Don't worry, you guys are on the list," Jun grinned.
"Great," Nino, attracted by the excitement his bandmates made inside the kitchen, came to join them too, leaving Sho alone in the living room. "I bet the biggest one would be mine, right?" he lifted the heart-shaped mold.
"Noo!" Aiba shook his head, pointing at the mold in Nino's hand, "That is absolutely mine!"
"Well, I'm fine with the small one," Ohno played with one of the small square moulds.
"Er... Guys..." Jun spoke, lifting a small square mold, "Actually, all of you will receive the same chocolates. That one—" he glanced at the heart-shaped mold, "Is for..."
A short silence. Nino, Aiba, and Ohno stared at the youngest, waiting for Jun to continue his words. Even Sho, though his eyes were still glued to his book, had stopped reading. He sharpened his ears, fully concentrated to any voices that might come from the kitchen.
"For...?" Aiba broke the silence.
"Er—nothing. Just forget it," Jun said, blushing.
"Aha!" Nino's high pitched voice raised in a mischievous tone. "I know! This must be for a special person, right? Like, the person that you—ehm—love."
"Nino, give it to me," Jun reached for the mold in Nino's hand, trying to avoid the topic.
"Ha-ha! Jun-pon is blushing hard! Means I got a bulls-eye." the gamer grinned teasingly.
"Who is it? Who is it? Who's that lucky person, Jun-chan? Tell me! Tell me!" Aiba nudged Jun's side, joining Nino to tease the youngest, whose face now had turned all bright-red.
"Oh, shut up!"
"Hee, Masaki, someone is getting angry~"
"Whoaaa, so scary~ Kazuu I'm scared~"
"Just... Get out of here, you two! Or I won't give you any chocolates," Jun turned towards the kitchen cupboard to take some saucepans to begin the chocolate-making process.
Nino and Aiba laughed and high-fived.
"Come on, Leader, we'd better leave the man-in-love alone, or we won't get our shares," Aiba led the group back to Sho's place in the living room with amused giggles.
Now, Sho couldn't get his concentration back to the book he was reading. His heart was beating so fast for he nearly heard the name of the person Jun was in love with.
Actually Sho was half-expecting that the lucky person was him. But then he realized, it was impossible, as he had once rejected Jun in front of the public on their early days as Arashi.
Ohno went back to his sketch book, Aiba and Nino started to play Wii, meanwhile Sho lost deeper in his own thoughts, suddenly in a bad mood.
Then, Jun's voice from the kitchen startled him, dragging the newscaster back to reality.
"I forgot to ask, what flavour do you guys want for your chocolates?"
"Hmm... Tuna would be great..." Ohno looked up from his sketch book, gazing away, imagining tuna-flavored chocolate.
"I don't think it's a good idea to mix tuna with chocolate," came Jun's hesitant voice. “You started to sound like Masaki-kun, Oh-chan."
"Hey!" Aiba protested, eyes still focused to the screen. "I never think about tuna-flavored chocolate! I am thinking about mabo tofu-flavored chocolate!"
Jun rolled his eyes, "See?"
"What?" the older moaned.
"That’s even worse, Masaki-kun. That won't be edible. Choose normal flavour, won’t you?"
"Jaa," Aiba pouted, "Milk."
"Milk for me too," Nino said, without moving his gaze from the screen.
"Oh-chan?"
"Well," the oldest shrugged, "Then anything is fine for me, as long as it's edible."
Jun chuckled. "Okay. And... Sho-san...?"
Sho jumped at the mention of his name. "Eh... M-me?"
"Yeah, what flavour do you want? Milk? Orange? Strawberry? Or...?"
Actually Sho wanted to say 'dark chocolate' to Jun, but maybe it was because of his sudden-bad-mood state from thinking that Jun now had already found the person he loved—the person other than Sho—that then the newscaster said, "Er—I think you don't need to make one for me Jun-kun... Because, you know, I'm on a diet for my new drama..."
Ohno looked up again from his drawing. Aiba abandoned his character on the screen. And even Nino turned around to stare at Sho.
"You're on a diet?" the gamer frowned.
He wasn't. But he nodded.
"You've lost enough weight already."
"Yeah, I... Er—need to lose another two or three kilograms..." the newscaster averted his eyes from his bandmates' questioning gaze.
"I can make it sugar-free," Jun offered.
"No, Jun-kun, you don't have to..."
"And I can use fat-free ingredients, so that it won't..."
"I said I don't need one! Can't you hear me?" out of his own control, Sho yelled in an annoyed tone.
Then silence.
"Okay..." Jun's weak voice heard from the kitchen, sounded disappointed and hurt.
The atmosphere became so awkward, that then one by one, started from Aiba, followed by Nino (who mumbled something about Sho had gotten weird and childish), and at last Ohno, decided to go to sleep earlier, leaving the bad-mood Sho alone in the living room—and Jun in the kitchen.
For about fifteen minutes, Sho sat in the empty living room, hearing the clink-clank sounds from the kitchen, as Jun continued his chocolate-making activity.
Sho was surprised by his own sudden anger. He hated himself for becoming angry easily just because of a random jealousy that he knew he didn't deserve to feel after what he had done to Jun in the past. He closed his book, messing up his hair with his right hand, before finally stood up from the sofa, and went to the kitchen.
"Jun-kun, I..." He called awkwardly. Jun stopped from his activity to mix the hot chocolate and the milk, staring at the older. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you. I just..."
The younger smiled weakly. "It's alright, Sho-san. I understand."
"Well," Sho scratched the back of his head. "I'm going first, then. Don't be too late. We have tough schedule tomorrow."
"Okay. Oyasuminasai, Sho-san."
Sho nodded and turned to go upstairs. But then he stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
"Jun-kun," he called again.
"Yes?"
"Good luck... Eh—in chasing the person you love..."
A short silence. Then the younger chuckled.
"I will. Thank you."
Sho started to climb the stairs. Suddenly he felt like there was a rope being tied really tight around his chest, making him hard to breath and his heart ached.
*
Sho woke up in the morning of Valentine Day to find Nino, Aiba, and Ohno were busy opening their chocolate box from Jun in the living room, still in their pajamas.
"Waaah! Cho umai!" Aiba's eyes widened in delight at his first bite of Jun's chocolate.
"You're right. This is delicious," Nino agreed. "Jun-pon has become better and better in making chocolate. Thanks to his newest drama."
"I got a white chocolate," Ohno lifted his chocolate.
"Let me take a bite," Aiba took a little pinch of Ohno's white chocolate. "Uah! This is also delicious!"
Sho watched his bandmates, trying hard not to drool over. He distracted himself with his black coffee.
"Sho-chan, you should've not refused Jun's chocolate yesterday. These are really delicious," Aiba shoved his chocolate box towards the newscaster, "Want some?"
"No, Masaki, thanks. I'm on a diet, remember?" Sho regretted his silly excuse so much.
"What a waste. You can skip your diet just for today," the younger pouted.
"Sorry," Sho shrugged. "Where is Jun, by the way?"
"He left in a hurry after handing these chocolates to us," Nino said, "He brought that big chocolate box, so maybe he's going to give that heart-shaped chocolate to the person he loves."
"Oh..."
Again, Sho's heart hurt.
*
They arrived at the TV station thirty minutes earlier, because the traffic wasn't as busy as usual.
Jun hadn't showed up since he left the house this morning. Sho started to wonder, whether the younger had succeeded in giving the chocolate to the person he loved or not.
If he succeeded, then...
Somehow, Sho could see it clearly inside his head. The image of Jun smiling happily, with slightly blushed cheeks, sharing nervous laughter with the person he loved...
Sho felt like bumping his head against the solid wall right now because of those frustrating thoughts, but when he was just about to do so, the staff opened the door on their left side, and bowed politely towards the newscaster.
"This is your greenroom, Sakurai-san."
"Ah, thank you." Sho bowed back, then closed the door behind him.
He leaned his back against the door, eyes closed, breathing in and out heavily, trying to calm himself down. He never thought before that he would ever felt this desperate just because Jun had another person to be loved other than him.
When the newscaster felt that he had already calmed enough, he opened his eyes. And there he saw it.
A thin, large box on the low table. Covered by a white paper, with a light blue ribbon tied neatly around it. A small card was put right beside the box.
Frowning, Sho took the card.
Dear Sho-san,
Happy Valentine!
Well, yeah. In the end, I did make a chocolate for you :)
At first, I was hesitating, because you said that you're on a diet, and you got angry when I insisted...
But then, you said "Good luck" for me to chase the one I love too. So then I decided to go on, and made this for you.
It's dark chocolate, by the way. I know dark chocolate is your favorite. And don't worry, I put very little amount of sugar in it, so hopefully it won't make you fat (?) (laugh)
I'm sorry I can't give this directly to you, because, well... You know. There are Nino and Masaki-kun, and Oh-chan too at home, so...
Well, enjoy :)
Love,
Jun
Sho blinked several times at the card, then slowly reached for the white box in front of him. His heart started to beat faster.
Could this be...
He started to tear the wrapping, then when he finally opened the box, his heart stopped from beating.
There, inside the box, lied a big heart-shaped dark chocolate, with a short message written on its surface: 'I will never give up on you.'
A smile made its way to Sho's lips. He felt like the rope which had been tied tightly around his chest since last night had already gone. He took a long breath, filling his lungs to the fullest with fresh air, then exhaling fast.
So, till today, Jun's most special person was still him. His feeling towards Sho never change.
Sho felt guilty again for yelling for no reason to the younger yesterday. He had decided, this time he wouldn't run away again. He would answer Jun's feeling.
"So, I have to give him something really special for White Day to make up for my stupid jealousy yesterday..."
He grinned wide. Really wide.
