Nino had been paying attention to Ohno for months, but lately, it was different. His crush had a new habit: applying lip balm after meal.
“My lips are cracking, and it hurts,” Ohno had said the first time Nino saw him applying the lip balm, quickly hiding the lip balm in his pocket. Ohno also said that the lip balm was recommended by his doctor, aside from the advice to drink lots of mineral water and to take vitamin C.


That was one night when Nino had dinner in Ohno’s apartment. As usual, Ohno applied some to his lips and put it back on his pocket.

“Now that I’m sitting next to you, I feel the scent’s kinda strong,” Nino said.

“Really?” Ohno sniffed, tilted his head to the side and licked his lower lip. “It doesn’t really have a taste, though,” he added casually, leaning his back against the sofa.

“Hmm…” Nino responded, leaning his back as well, and stretched his left hand to put it on Ohno’s left shoulder. Ohno stiffened and gulped at the sudden contact. “What flavor is it again?” Nino asked.

“Strawberry…” Ohno answered nervously, slightly blushing, getting an ‘oh I see’ from Nino.

But Nino suddenly straightened his back up, hand still holding Ohno’s shoulder, and brought Ohno to face him, face only a few inches close. His eyes emitted a teasing spark, and his lips drew a smirk.

“Can I taste the strawberry?” Nino asked.

Ohno’s eyes grew as wide as a saucer, stuttered on what words to say, but finally forced his eyes shut as Nino leaned closer to his face without waiting for Ohno’s answer. Ohno kept his eyes shut, waiting. He wasn’t sure whether he wanted this or not, but he knew he was expecting a kiss, and he would just allow Nino to do whatever he wanted…

“Wow this is sweet…” Nino said.

Ohno, who hadn’t feel anything on his lips, opened his eyes in surprise to find Nino chewing on a strawberry he took from a plate on the coffee table, releasing his hold on Ohno slowly. Ohno let out a sigh of relief. He felt stupid for forgetting that there were some real strawberries on the plate, and Nino was just teasing him when he actually meant he wanted to taste the strawberry.

He leaned his back against the sofa once again, threw his head backwards to take a deep breath. When he tried to straighten his back and sit normally, though, he had Nino’s lips on his before he knew it. Ohno gasped. After some seconds, Nino broke the kiss.

“This one is sweeter,” Nino said with a wink. “Gochisousama!” he added and went home as if nothing happened.

Ohno was left freezing and jaw-dropping.
