Title: Their Sunshine
Prompt: Dough
Pairing: Sakumoto
Genre: fluff / a bit of angst
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Masaki is Sho and Jun’s sunshine. When the sun is gone, he takes along something important, but still, Jun can’t love Sho any less.
Warning: health condition and character death.
--
Jun wakes up from his bed lazily. He turns his head to find the older man sitting on the floor near the window, staring outside with eyes closed and mouth hanging open. The man is rocking his body side to side, bobbing his head, bathing in the first rays of sunlight. Jun can’t help but smile softly at the sight, crawling slowly down his bed.
“Morning, Sho.”
He wraps his hands around the older man’s sturdy built and kisses his shoulder, feeling the older man slightly shudders under his touch. Despite having woken up much earlier than him, Sho still smells like sleep—innocent, vulnerable, and fragile. He chuckles and shifts to sit beside the older man.
“What are you going to do today, Sho?”
The older man shakes his head. “Sho. Play... No. Help Jun. Jun… angry.”
“Hmm? You want to play? It’s okay, go play.”
Sho raises his head and looks expectantly at Jun, blinking as if he doesn’t believe he just got permission from Jun. “Really? Sho play? Okay?”
The warmth from the sun, the floor, and the childish plea from Sho fill his entire body and soul, making him smile warmly and lean forward to give an open-mouth kiss on Sho’s slightly parted lips. Sho gasps but closes his eyes anyway, his hands grasping Jun’s arms and tugging him down.
“Sho…” Jun mumbles, his lips not leaving Sho’s. “C’mon. How can I cook breakfast if you’re holding on to me like this?” Jun smiles and bites Sho’s lower lip for one last time before softly nuzzles his cheek and gets up when the older releases him.
“Sunshine,” Sho lies on his back, pointing to the East. “Sunshine Masaki. He watch us love. So Jun shy,” Sho giggles. “Sunshine, still kid. Can’t watch. Nee, Jun?” He grinned.
Jun feels a pang on his chest hearing the words from Sho. Indeed, Sho doesn’t form a good sentence, but Jun knows. Jun knows how Sho is still missing Masaki—their adopted child—deep in his fragile heart. But he smiles despite the creeping bitterness in his heart, “Yes, he can’t watch us like this. That’s why, let’s do it at night, when Sunshine’s not around, okay?” he caresses Sho’s cheek softly. The prominent cheekbones, God, how he has lost that much weight just in three weeks…
“Night. Masaki. Sleep.”
Jun nods. “I’ll take a bath first. After that, I’ll cook breakfast for us, okay? After that we’ll eat, and you can play as much as you want.”
**
“Oh fuck. Sho!!” Jun shouts when he find Sho in the dining room, playing with a particular stainless bowl, spilling all of its thick white content on the floor, adding colors and making shapes with it. He tries to control himself and strides towards Sho, snatching the stainless bowl from him. “Sho, you can’t play with this… This—”
“Last night. Jun make marzipan. Masaki love this. Play!” Sho smiles happily, but it fades slowly when he realizes the silence and Jun’s fast breathing. “See. Sho play. Jun angry,” he bites his lips.
Jun takes a deep breath and settles down beside Sho. “It… It’s fine, it’s fine, Sho. Let’s… let’s play. What would you like to make?”
“Us.”
“Eh?”
“Jun. Sho. Masaki,” Sho smiles and starts to take some of the marzipan into his hands and mould it.
Jun leans forward and kisses Sho’s temple softly. “Okay then.”
When a miniature Masaki is done, Jun puts it in Sho’s hands. Sho is pouting and glancing at Jun. Being a patisserie, Jun is always capable of making artistic shapes and ornaments. “Not fair.” Sho pinches Jun’s cheek.
Jun giggles. “Sho,” he calls softly, “Where’s Masaki now…?” Jun asks cautiously, trying to make sure of Sho’s mental condition.
Outside, a parade of clouds covers the rays of the sun. Their sunlit dining-room goes dimmer, sending Jun to reminisce. Three weeks ago—the day of the accident—when Sho found out about Masaki’s death, it was the first time Jun realized that his Sho wasn’t the usual Sho. If his speech was a mess, his mental condition was worse. The damage on his brain and nerve, and the pain of losing Masaki had turned him into a mad lump of meat. His doctor said Jun should try to make Sho acknowledge the truth if he wants him to get better.
“Where’s Masaki now?” Jun repeats.
“Up there,” Sho points upwards, “and East,” he points at the direction of sunrise, then draws a curve with his index finger “aaaand West. Later.” He smiles. He takes Jun’s right hand in his hands and puts it on his left chest. He then puts his own right hand to Jun’s left chest. “And then thump, thump. Masaki here. In Sho. In Jun. Sho know.” Sho smiles warmly, and as if Heaven knows, the nasty parade of clouds goes away, once again allowing the rays of the sun shining upon them.
“Sho… Oh, gosh, Sho…” Jun can’t help but throws himself at Sho, embracing him and showering him with light kisses all over his face.
“Hmm…?”
“Nevermind. Sho. I love you. Remember that. And please, get better.”
“Sho… good. Because Jun with Sho. Jun talk to Sho. Jun hold Sho’s hands. Sho love Jun.”
Jun cups Sho’s cheeks and stares at Sho a bit longer than usual. He enjoys every bits of Sho’s facial feature lit by the sunlight, accentuated by the shadows of swaying curtains and calming sounds of the windbells. Overflowing with warmth, with affection. His Sho is still perfect even in his imperfection now, leaving no room for hate in his heart. Time, he only needs time to heal his Sho…
Jun closes the distance between them and presses his lips to Sho’s, pulling the older man’s hands to curl them around his neck as he threads his own fingers through Sho’s hair. “I love you,” he whispers into Sho’s mouth and smiles as he feels Sho’s smile under the touch of his lips. As if leaving no room for Sho to say something, he pushes Sho down on the floor and nibbles on Sho’s plump lower lips before trailing another loving and wet kisses along his jawline, up to his ear and down again to his neck.
“Nggh…,” Sho moans, “Sunshine. Masaki. Can’t see—”
Jun shuts him up with a deeper kiss. “Masaki, too, is growing up…” he growls into Sho’s mouth and gives his lips another bites. “Come on.”
“Jun—” Sho gasps when Jun shifts and gives him playful bites on his earlobe. “…Okay.”
**
Jun stares at Sho, who is now sleeping soundly beside him. He looks normal, if not for the damage he has to endure because of the accident. He sleeps peacefully and breathes evenly as if nothing happens.
The sun is still shining down on them, although not as bright as when they started. The sweat on Sho’s bare skin glistens under the sunlight, once again bringing such a loving feeling to Jun’s heart.
Jun gets up to put his pants back. Standing up, he sees the stainless bowl and bunch of wasted marzipans all over the floor, neglected. He sighs upon seeing the mess—mixed colors, random shapes, misshaped human miniatures, letters....
And mini-Masaki.
He smiles and takes the mini-Masaki in his hands. “Masaki…”
He then reaches for his phone and dials the number he has been remembering these past two days.
His frown disappears when the familiar friendly voice answers him from the other side of the line. “Ah, Ogu-san? I’m cancelling my entry for the cake decoration contest this evening. Hm? Ah! It has nothing to do with Sho! I messed up with my marzipan dough, that’s all, so… Oh, it’s okay. I don’t mind missing my chance. Yes. Thank you.”
He hangs up. He bites back his tears. He was confident enough to win the contest and win enough money to support Sho to go to a better rehabilitation center. But now… he has to wait for another chance…
He turns around when he hears Sho grunts and shifts on the floor. Sho is still sleeping, it seems, but his pouty mouth is mumbling something. Jun walks closer and finally hears it.
“Jun. Stay…?”
Jun closes his eyes and smiles. “I will.”
He joins Sho again on the floor, lying down comfortably beside him.
